Primary Purpose of Position This position is a part of the CLAS IT support team and directly supports the Language Resource Center (LRC) at UNC Charlotte with guidance from the LRC Director. This position supports the students and faculty in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies and and secondary support for other humanities departments in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Minimum Education/Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Technology Integration; Networking Technology, or related areas and two years of experience in the Information Technology field related to the position’s role; or a Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role, or a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or Engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in computer science, information technology or related area and one year in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in computer science or information technology or related degree. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education.
Essential Job Duties The Technology Support Specialist serves as the Language Resource Center (LRC) Coordinator and IT support specialist. The Coordinator staffs and supervises the LRC during regular business operations and for special projects, provides technical support for the LRC and Film Studies lab hardware and software, configuration, maintenance, and minor repairs, evaluating new technologies and development of technical solutions; provides support for LRC and film faculty and student clients in multilingual and multimedia computing; provides technical support for development of LRC and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) IT Team instructional technology projects, including multimedia and web; maintains LRC and film lab hardware, software and media inventories, usage databases, and documentation; aids in LRC planning and film lab planning. Experience in a multilingual computer lab environment will make the candidate an excellent fit in our environment. Project management experience and excellent communication skills are highly welcome. Lab management in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is coordinated at the college level; teamwork is required.
Other Work Responsibilities
  • Delegate and collaborate on tasks accordingly to work study students and to the LRC Director, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences IT team, or the OneIT organization.
  • Inventory, and monitor check-in and check-out equipment.
  • Hire and supervise work-study students to support daily operations.
  • Maintain Main Classroom Reservation calendar.
  • Monitor Language Resource Center Main Classroom (COED 434), Independent Study work stations (COED 434), and the Film Studies lab classroom (COED 037).
  • Collaborate to design solutions for technical and pedagogical challenges.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Preference is given to the candidate who has;

  • Experience with client technical support (computer software/hardware troubleshooting), technical documentation, and who demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Intermediate experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Sites).
  • Ability to supervise work study students, determine individual strengths, and delegate tasks.
