Job Summary	The Technology Licensing Officer will primarily be responsible for managing the commercialization of the University’s physical sciences intellectual property (IP) portfolio. The Technology Licensing Officer will focus on research, assessment, and marketing of University IP, negotiating the terms of technology commercialization deals, monitoring licensee performance and obligations, and engagement with faculty and students to support technology transfer and entrepreneurial activities on campus and commercialization of their inventions. Essential Functions	Identify, establish, and maintain company contacts for marketing of AU technologies. Prepare technical abstracts related to marketing documents. Perform and initiate technical background and commercial market research. Perform technical, legal, and commercial assessment of new technologies. Market AU technologies/ inventions to companies via phone, email, written correspondence, website, and networking functions. Provide faculty and staff with intellectual property information including information on invention disclosure, technology transfer, patenting, and licensing. Determine and implement patent strategy for new invention disclosures including selecting patent counsel, reviewing patent applications, prosecution documents, and assisting in making decisions with patent counsel. Draft and negotiate commercialization term sheets with companies including those for option, license, and equity-based agreements. Monitor and maintain existing agreements and relationships with commercial partners. Serve as a liaison between The IP Exchange (IPX) and other units within the University. Provide guidance and planning on developing technologies concerning commercial success. Engage in activities that promote or develop and enhance the formation of startup companies from AU technologies. Promote the activities of the IPX.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities	Working knowledge of and application of standard principles, theories and concepts such as laws, regulations, and practices pertaining to the protection and management of intellectual property, university technology transfer, and general scientific and/or technical skills in subject matter area. Ability to market technology to industrial partners; knowledge of contracts and grants preferred. Solid communicator: includes verbal and written communications, active listening, critical thinking, and persuasiveness. Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service oriented individual who will be responsive to the needs of faculty, students, staff, entrepreneurs, and industry partners. Demonstrated energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to make and utilize new contacts. Precise attention to detail, well organized, follow-through to conclusion of actions, with ability to identify errors, offer resolution, and to meet strict deadlines. Demonstrated record as a team player within a diverse environment. Self-starter with strong work ethic who can work well with others. Demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property management and patent (U.S. and foreign, including PCT) prosecution procedures, timelines, laws and regulations.

Desired Qualifications	Strongly Preferred: PhD or JD or a Master’s degree in physical sciences or engineering discipline. Preferred Certifications: Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) and/or Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP).
