Technician – Scion

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bio-economy.

You will be part of a team that is involved in biomaterials processing, extrusion, material characterisation, handling of biomass and tasks related to Scion’s polymer extrusion facility.

Reporting to the Sustainable Materials Team Lead within our Materials, Engineering & Manufacturing group, you will:

  • Assist with polymer extrusion and sample testing
  • Assist with the processing of biomass e.g. bark, wood, fibre.
  • Assist with the operation of the bio-degradation facility
  • Assist in the timber workshop
  • Assist with lab and plant clean up duties.

 What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Full clean drivers licence
  • Capable to obtain or have a forklift licence
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Capable and available for heavy, dirty manual work

Desirable skills:

  • Competent in using MS office suite
  • Data capture and analysis
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • General IT skills across MS Office suite
