Position Summary

The individual will conduct pre-clinical research on an infantile-onset brain disorder as a means of eventually developing a treatment for the disease.

Responsibilities

The individual is expected to work on a pre-clinical model of Glut1 deficiency, a pediatric neurodevelopmental disorder for which there is currently no effective treatment.  Specifically, s/he will administer and test a potential therapeutic in the rodent model.  This involves mouse husbandry, genotyping and a range of molecular, cellular and behavioral assays to be used on the model mice.  In addition to the research work in the lab, the individual is expected to help develop IACUC protocols and manage certain aspects of running a research lab, e.g., liaising with the university EH&S office, ensuring the lab is compliant with state, local and university rules and regulations and ordering reagents for lab work.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, or related science and/or equivalent in education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. is desirable as is prior experience working in a research laboratory.
