Position Summary

Dr. Ryan Moy and the lab of Dr. Sandra Ryeom at Columbia University Irving Medical Center are seeking a highly motivated Technician B to support ongoing research investigating stomach cancer biology and therapeutics. The lab uses innovative genetically engineered mouse models of stomach cancer and 3D cultures from patient tumors to define pathways controlling cancer growth and metastasis. The individual will use these models to investigate novel therapeutic strategies including targeted therapies and immunotherapies for stomach cancer, which will inform clinical trial development.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Tissue culture using cell lines and organoids
  • Basic molecular biology experiments (eg., cloning, RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry)
  • Maintenance and handling of mice for research studies
  • Data processing and analysis
  • Communication with scientific and clinical collaborators
  • Generation of oral and written presentations on performed experiments
  • Participate in scientific conferences and contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, molecular biology, or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Ability to review information critically, make decisions to solve complex problems and learn new tasks with general instruction
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent time-management skills
  • Proficiency in tissue culture and basic molecular biological experiments (eg., cloning, RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, western blotting, flow cytometry) or prior experience working with mice in a research setting

Other Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient technical skills including MicroSoft Word/Excel
