Based in Hobart, the Australian National Fish Collection (ANFC) helps to sustainably manage Australia’s marine biodiversity, and is part of CSIRO’s National Collections and Marine Infrastructure Business Unit. The ANFC mostly contains marine fish species, particularly deep-water fishes, sharks and rays from Australia and adjacent regions.
As a Technician for the ANFC, you will work in a diverse team alongside geneticists, curatorial staff and taxonomists. As part of the collection’s involvement with CSIRO’s National Biodiversity DNA Library (NBDL), you will undertake sampling for the ANFC Specimens project. You will organise and collect subsamples from our extensive fish tissue collection for large scale DNA sequencing, and help with the processing and curation of new and existing fish specimens.
