All veterinary students Year 1-4 eligible

Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre is currently welcoming dependable veterinary students to work as Technician Assistants with our team. This position is for on-call services, after hours within the Surgery Department. The role will assist with:

• Patient and OR
• Assist with patient preparation for surgery,
• Scrub in to assist with surgery and assist the surgeon as required
• Cleanup of the OR and instruments once surgery is completed.

All veterinary students must have a valid ABVMA student licence.

Additional responsibilities and attributes required;

• Assist veterinary staff with various tasks and treatments
• Create a warm and welcoming environment for our patient and pet parents
• Create a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients
• General housekeeping duties; cleanliness of reception area, pet holding areas and common areas
• Willingness to learn more regarding; veterinary services, updated medical office procedures and assisting the Veterinary staff with various tasks and treatments
• Exceptional client service skills
• Compassion and nurturing attitude
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
• Ability to adapt in changing situations
• Efficient in carrying out assignments independently
• Takes initiative to complete tasks throughout the day

Schedule:

• Rotating on-call schedule is dependent on number of members in group. The average number of on call shifts can vary from 3 – 8 shift per month.
• Weekday: Overnight 12 hour coverage (18:00 – 6:00)
• Weekend: 24 hour coverage (18:00 – 6:00 & 6:00 – 18:00)
