The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Technician in the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.

The postholder will be based in the Evolve laboratory managed by Dr Vanessa Brown, and will manage, plan and coordinate quality control programmes to ensure processes are performed in accordance with defined protocols and regulations and will be responsible for overseeing all sample kitting activities by close liaison with study sites.

The postholder will undertake analytical duties for the diagnostic and research activities of the Evolve Laboratory which includes carrying out experimental and analytical diagnostics and investigations.

This post is available on a fixed term contract for 12 months.Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:   

  • Academic and/or vocational qualifications i.e. OND/ONC and/or NVQ level 4 in relevant subject (or equivalent) OR Substantial relevant experience working in a multi-functional laboratory.
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant hands-on work experience to include: working in inflammation research/molecular biology/microbiology laboratory; or clinical laboratory – in a wide range of laboratory methods.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working within a quality management system/regulatory environment and in the development of CAPAs.
  • Experience of coordinating clinical sites in various laboratory aspects, specifically overseeing all kitting activities.
  • Experience of handling clinical samples.
