Technical Services Communications and Engagement Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Technical Services team in a brand-new role as our Communications and Engagement Officer.  

Our team comprises approximately 200 technicians across the University. We provide specialist support to undergraduate and postgraduate students and the student experience is at the heart of what we do.   

The services we provide underpin a wide variety of academic programmes and we deliver this support via specialist laboratories, workshops, design studios and contemporary arts facilities.   

Our technical staff provide a high level of expertise and technical knowledge, playing a key role in supporting students in their studies and project work.   We provide support for research, consultancy and knowledge exchange activities.    We are a positive, forward-looking service, committed to a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence. 

About the role:
This is a fantastic opportunity to join us in an impactful and exciting role as Communications and Engagement Officer in our positive and supportive team.  You will lead Technical Services communications and engagement activity and will be primarily based in the fantastic Great Marlborough Street Building, Manchester Metropolitan University.

You will ensure effective communications to raise our profile and increase customer engagement.  With direction from Technical Services Senior Leadership Team, you will lead internal communications ensuring that students and staff are informed about the services we deliver. Through your work you will ensure Technical Services colleagues are involved, listened to, engaged and motivated to work in the collective pursuit of achieving our vision and delivering excellent services. You will work collaboratively with the University Communications team to ensure alignment and integration with University-wide communications with students, staff and external stakeholders.

About You:
You will have a passion for communications and a desire to use their skills and abilities to make a positive impact, along with the necessary skills to pro-actively build effective working relationships internally and externally, at all levels. In addition, you will have substantial experience of

developing creative content approaches for a range of audiences and a proven experience of planning and delivering communications campaigns with demonstrably successful business outcomes.

In recognition of staff contributions to the University’s achievements during the 2021/2022 academic year, an additional discretionary payment of 2% per annum will be added to your salary until 31/07/23 in order to ensure consistency amongst existing and incoming staff.  This additional 2% will be paid pro rata in equal monthly installments, on top of your salary each month until 31/07/23.
