TELEWORK
This position offers an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule with a minimum 2-day work in office.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM
As part of TCEQ’s Office of Water, you would contribute to ensuring clean and available water and protecting Texas’ water resources.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a part of the division’s Water Quality Planning team, our Technical Lead – Aquatic Scientist will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:

* Develop and coordinate water quality standards, perform advanced work related to Texas surface water quality, and determine and implement regulatory requirements to protect specific water bodies throughout the state for the Water Quality Planning Division (WQPD) of the TCEQ.
Perform work as assigned on the periodic (triennial) complex rule revision of the Texas Surface Water Quality Standards. Mentor and train entry-level and junior staff.
* Aid in developing, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating water quality studies and use-attainability analyses.
* Design, coordinate, and evaluate contract documents, budgets, deliverables, and invoices.
Assist TCEQ water programs with the implementation of water quality standards and site-specific water quality criteria.
* Communicate with TCEQ staff, contractors, and the public to convey information and to improve water quality management. Prepare advanced scientific informational material.
* Lead and/or participate in workgroups on water quality issues, participate in meetings as technical expert, and write rules, regulations, guidance, and briefings. Review and conduct presentations on water quality issues as needed.
* Prepare and/or review legislation, legislative initiatives, publications, data, and reports and makes technical recommendations.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a natural science such as biology, zoology, wildlife/fisheries science, toxicology, environmental science, or a closely related field. These degrees must include nine semester hours in statistics, limnology, ecology, hydrology, aquatic ecology, ichthyology, benthic ecology, wildlife biology, invertebrate biology, entomology, toxicology, phycology, marine science, aquatic chemistry, aquatic pollution, or aquatic microbiology, plus seven years of full-time experience in aquatic science work related to the examples of work performed.
OR

A bachelor’s degree plus nine years of full-time experience in environmental activities related to the examples of work performed.
OR

A graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in biology, zoology, wildlife/fisheries science, toxicology, environmental science, or closely related field. This degree must include 18 semester hours in statistics, limnology, ecology, hydrology, aquatic ecology, ichthyology, benthic ecology, wildlife biology, invertebrate biology, entomology, toxicology, phycology, marine science, aquatic chemistry, aquatic pollution, or aquatic microbiology plus six years of full-time experience related to the examples of work performed.
OR

Experience within the TCEQ as an Aquatic Scientist IV.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate degree with coursework in an aquatic – related science.
Experience developing or implementing state and/or federal regulations and/or rules related to water quality.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Hydrologist V state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Aquatic Scientist V series.
