Technical Delivery Lead

  • Full-time permanent position

  • Competitive base salary plus 17 % superannuation

About This Opportunity 

The position provides technical leadership, co-ordinates and participates in the delivery of projects and solutions across many underpinning IT infrastructure domains, predominantly in the communications network domain and construction projects.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the delivery of projects in a timely, professional, and methodical manner.

  • Consult on the technical aspects of communications technology to ITS clients.

  • Consult and liaise with external agencies involved in implementing communication networks and other IT systems for construction projects or minor / refurbishment works.

  • Ensure that the relevant legislation and standards are compiled with during the entire lifecycle of the project from consulting on the design, physical inspection prior to acceptance and including any defects / warranty matters.

  • Consult to clients and represent ITS on matters not directly related to technical issues, such as staff selection and other University committees.

  • Undertake design, development, implementation, and maintenance oversight of systems for campus wide application, including providing solutions to complex infrastructure problems.

  • Facilitate and support the following tasks of the projects:

    • Auditing, planning and preparation for network deployment including physical layer (fibre / cabling, verify rack capacity etc).

    • Liaising with and building strong positive working relationships with internal teams, external teams, suppliers, construction teams and project managers.

    • Interpreting floor plans for communication networks and remaining compliant with legislation and relevant standards.

    • Tracking and co-ordination of tasks internal and external to the team.

    • Change and expectation management

    • Developing Bill of Materials (BoM),quotes and Ordering

    • Preparing and conducting operational handovers.

    • Implementation, troubleshooting and issue resolution

    • Updating and creating operational documentation including Visio network and fibre drawings

  • Adopt and promote sound cyber security practices in compliance with UQ’s Cyber Security Policy and according to cyber security procedures and standards developed by the University or Division

  • Contribute to developing and maintaining standards relating to the UQ network and IT Infrastructure.

  • Proactively research, evaluate and report on technological advances, new equipment, systems, processes and standards relevant to the changing business needs of the University.

  • Oversee the day to day activities of other team members and provide senior technical advice, support and mentoring to ensure day to day operational and project management objectives are met.

  • Understand and implement university policy in such areas as occupational health and safety and equity

  • An employee may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the classification and within the limits of their skill, competence and training

About You

To be successful in this role you will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and provide operational direction to other team members and to communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of people to achieve outcomes, in addition you will also have

Essential criteria:

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in IT, Electronic Engineering or related field and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Relevant vendor / industry certifications, in particular:

    • CCNA Routing and Switching or equivlent.

    • BICSI or equivlent

  • Significant experience in consulting, advising on, and coordinating IT projects across a range of stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.

  • Extensive experience in the design and delivery of communication networks as part of large construction projects.

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the analysis, design, development and management of large-scale complex communications networks, ideally in a service provider or enterprise environment.

  • Proven experience providing advice / assistance and contributing to the documentation of business processes and solution designs related to I.T. services and ensuring the timely resolution of customer issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and adopt new processes and technologies to deliver excellent service and quality outcomes.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work constructively, and in an organised and methodical way, to deliver effective solutions that meet organisational objectives with limited guidance in a team environment.

  • Proven experience of structured and fibre optic cabling systems.

Desirable criteria:

  • Skills in analysis, design, development, operation and maintenance of contemporary communications infrastructure. Specific knowledge in any of the following areas will be highly regarded:

    • routing and switching

    • network security

    • IP Telephony

    • server farm networking

    • Internet links and BGP

    • disaster recovery planning

    • MPLS

    • Wireless LAN technologies

    • Optical switching technologies

    • Software defined Networking (e.g. Cisco ACI, Cisco SDA and VMWare NSX-T)

  • Computer programming and / or scripting (python highly desirable)

  • Vendor certification CCNP Routing and Switching or equivlent.

  • Exposure to a quality management framework/certification system

  • Exposure to a formal service management methodology (e.g. ITIL)

  • Exposure to Other areas of IT infrastructure namely, Compute, Storage, Firewalls and Public Cloud Services.

  • Experience using JIRA and Confluence project management programs and applications

What We Can Offer 

This is a Full-time permanent position at HEW level 8.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $102,270 – $114,836, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $119,656 – $134,357 per annum.
