Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
The research technician will be collaborating with the Aquatic Landscape Ecology Lab at MSU, the Applied Aquatic Ecology Lab at the University of Michigan, and the Institute for Fisheries Research (IFR) of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources during summer 2024. They will be responsible for scanning records, geolocating data and organizing and labeling files. They will also enter data into a digital format and perform quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) of data. They will be working with archives at the IFR office on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. Sometimes work will be done in cooperation with other staff and often independently. The technicians may also be asked to support other database management activities related to rivers, lakes, and aquatic biota across the state.
Desired Qualifications
- Pursuing or have completed a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife, Biology, Ecology, or field of study related to natural resources management
- Comfortable working remotely but also in a collaborative setting
- Attention to detail in file and data management
- Experience with data entry and QA/QC
- Familiarity with riverine fishes and fluvial ecology
- Experience sampling a variety of aquatic taxa (e.g., plants, aquatic macroinvertebrates, fishes)
- Experience using ArcGIS or other spatial analysis software or with geolocating waterbodies
