We are looking for

Are you a content-driven people manager looking for a job with societal impact? This position as teammanager of a group of highly qualified and innovative socioeconomic researchers should be right up your alley. 

You will be working at Wageningen Economic Research (WEcR) , an institute for applied socioeconomic research in agriculture and food production. This vacancy is for the International Policy group, which currently consists of 40 highly motivated professionals working on research projects with the aim of contributing to a more sustainable world by doing applied socioeconomic studies for the European Commission, other public international institutions and governments, food companies and NGOs, e.g.:

  • Simulating and assessing cross-cutting impacts of agricultural, trade, climate change and bioenergy policies on the global economy with the CGE model MAGNET;
  • Analysing determinants and outcomes of agricultural commodity markets, such as price formation, supply and demand evolution;

The group comprises a multidisciplinary and multinational team of micro and macro modelling experts and researchers in food policy analysis, food system transformation and impact evaluation. Within the network organisation

researchers work across all groups and WUR divisions in multidisciplinary project teams and with experts from other Dutch and international universities, institutes and consultancies.

As teammanager you will be a sparring partner for project managers and researchers as well as responsible for their performance and development. It is possible that as result of updating the WEcR strategy and optimising managerial span of influence, adjustments in the composition of this (and other) group(s) will be on the agenda in the forthcoming months. Your main focus will be on the closely linked economic CGE modelling (Magnet) and food policy analysis teams within the group. These are two well-organized teams leaving ample scope for content-based contributions next to management tasks.

JOB DESCRIPTION
As teammanager of the International Policy group, you effectively and efficiently co-ordinate and organise research processes. You take care of a professional and well-organised group and are responsible for the group’s operational management. Your most important tasks are:

  • Contributing hands-on in projects to make impact and help with capacity challenges;
  • Participating in acquisition efforts and external representation of the team to the stakeholders;
  • Motivating and stimulating researchers in their responsibility for executing high quality research and delivering products and services through collaboration and development;
  • Being a sparring partner for researchers about strategic research questions and outreach based on broad knowledge of the domain and experience with executing research projects;
  • Planning and managing research capacity and assuring the quality of products and services;
  • Facilitating and stimulating the development of professional competencies of the team through life-long learning and innovation;

We ask

We are looking for an inspirational, creative and firm manager with a taste for quality, impact, development of people and experience in research. We ask you to have:

  • at least an MSc in economics or social sciences with proven affinity with quantitative economic research;
  • experience as team manager in a research organisation or university quarters. Experience with leading a team of highly educated professionals is a must;
  • affinity with model-based research and understanding the challenges of economic modelling;
  • excellent competencies in project and people management;
  • experience with public and private policy-making processes in national and international contexts;
  • experience with and a taste for effective and efficient operational management in a research environment;
  • an approachable look and feel and the social competencies to connect, inspire and motivate your team;
  • the willingness to jointly develop new and creative ideas about development of the team and Wageningen Economic Research as a whole;
  • excellent communicative competencies in English and Dutch (both C1 level );
  • a willingness to be at least one day per week in our office in The Hague and at least one day per week in our office in Wageningen, with the opportunity to work from home otherwise.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 4.644,- and € 6.978,- for a contract with a working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the

CLA Wageningen Research

(scale 13). Additionally, a contract of 0.8 fte can be discussed.
