Your Responsibilities

The high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure at ISTA is crucial as it enables researchers from diverse scientific fields to address intricate issues and achieve groundbreaking findings. At ISTA’s Scientific Computing facility, you’ll play a pivotal role in overseeing and advancing our cutting-edge High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, one of the largest in Austria. Your expertise and grasp of research methodologies will be essential for providing exceptional support to our scientists.

Lead a team of specialists in operating our HPC cluster(s)
Run, extend and further develop the ISTA HPC cluster(s) including the attached storage
Provide support for users of our HPC cluster(s), and ensure proper accounting and internal invoicing of used resources
Coordinate and manage hardware & software procurement, license tracking, and compliance with relevant policies and regulations for the HPC cluster(s)
Develop and maintain documentation, knowledge base articles, standard operating procedures, and polices for the HPC infrastructures
Develop and provide trainings to ensure efficient use of our HPC infrastructures
Stay abreast of emerging HPC/IT trends and technologies to enhance your knowledge and expertise
Maintain open and effective communication channels with internal stakeholders, scientists, external partners such as Austrian and international research institutions and HPC communities

Your Profile

Master/Phd in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
Experience in leading and supervising teams, preferably in a similar role at an international research or computing facility
Several years of professional experience as a HPC Systems Administrator or a similar role
In-depth knowledge of parallel/cluster file systems like BeeGFS, Lustre, NFS, and ZFS
Familiarity with InfiniBand networking and its implementations in a HPC environment
Hands-on experience with SLURM or other HPC job schedulers, as a user and administrator
Solid understanding of Linux operating systems, system administration, and shell scripting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
