About the Opportunity

Brock University Library invites applications for the full-time, permanent position of Teaching & Learning Librarian, Mathematics & Science and Applied Health Sciences.

The successful candidate will join the Library’s highly collaborative Teaching & Learning department. Reporting to the Head, Teaching and Learning, this position will support the teaching & learning mission of the Library alongside a team of four other librarians. The Teaching & Learning Librarian, Mathematics & Science and Applied Health Sciences collaboratively develops tools, processes, and resources that support the department’s strategic goals, including curriculum integration. The successful candidate will lead the department’s instruction and course support within the Faculties of Mathematics & Science and Applied Health Sciences.

The successful candidate will:

• Deliver in-person and online instruction.
• Provide in-depth consultation service on an individual basis (in person, e-mail, telephone, and online) to students and faculty.
• Provide leadership for instruction and course support to programs within the Faculties of Mathematics & Science and Applied Health Sciences.
• Build relationships with instructors within the Faculties of Mathematics & Science and Applied Health Sciences and associated academic units and programs in furtherance of the department’s goals.
• Support departmental initiatives to enhance instruction at Brock by integrating information literacies and research competencies into course and program design.
• Collaboratively support departmental goals and activities, including curriculum integration strategy, open educational resources and open pedagogy, assessment, online/blended learning, and learner accessibility.
• Support the library’s goals related to evidence synthesis services (i.e., systematic reviews, scoping reviews, etc.). 
• Engage in ongoing professional development in library teaching & learning and apply useful developments into practice.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

• A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library program or equivalent.
• Relevant professional background or education in Applied Health Sciences, Mathematics, or Science.
• Familiarity with teaching methodologies and instructional design principles.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and assess student-centered instructional content, in person and/or online.
• Evidence of creative and flexible approaches to setting and achieving professional goals.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workload.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
• Familiarity with inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation, and decolonization initiatives in academic libraries. 
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Qualifications Considered an Asset:

We want to emphasize that these qualifications are considered an asset. They are not required, and we are committed to helping our future colleague develop these skills.

• Master’s level education in an academic discipline.
• Knowledge of e-learning and instructional support software, and course management platforms.
• Knowledge of accessibility practices as it relates to teaching & learning, including universal design for learning.
• Experience in faculty and/or instructor relationship-building and communication.
• Experience providing information and research consultations in a library setting.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with evidence synthesis (i.e., systematic reviews, scoping reviews, etc.).

This position is available as of January 1, 2025.

Compensation:

Brock University offers a competitive salary and an attractive benefits package. It is anticipated that this appointment will be made at the rank of Librarian I or II. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is included in the Brock University Faculty Association (BUFA) and is governed by the BUFA Collective Agreement.
