Teaching Fellow in Physical Geography (Ecology and Conservation Science)

The School of Geography and the Environment and St Peter’s College are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity of a one-year Teaching Fellowship in Physical Geography with a focus on Ecology and Conservation Science.  The successful candidate will be expected to give high-quality lectures, classes and tutorials at both undergraduate and graduate level and have a strong research interest in an area within or complementary to ecology and conservation science.

The successful applicant is expected to teach aspects of ecology and conservation science, commensurate with needs on courses in the undergraduate and Biodiversity, Conservation and Management MSc programme. For St Peter’s College the post holder will also be expected to give six weighted hours per week of tutorials during the eight weeks of full term, take joint responsibility for the organisation and teaching of Geography within the College, and act as a College advisor for a small number of graduate students in Geography and related fields

To undertake this role, you will hold or be close to completing a PhD/DPhil in physical geography, with a focus on aspects of ecology and conservation science or a closely related field. You will be able to demonstrate the ability or potential to be an effective teacher of undergraduate and graduate (MSc) students of high ability, to lecture at an appropriate level in an interesting and engaging manner, to supervise student dissertations, to provide undergraduate tutorial (i.e. small group) teaching, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design. Experience of using fieldwork and a variety of techniques in teaching and/or research is essential.
