Teaching Fellow in Analytical Toxicology

The department of Analytical, Environmental & Forensic Sciences houses three ISO17025 accredited forensic science laboratories, alongside research teams carrying out cutting-edge forensic research. We are seeking a Teaching Fellow to contribute to the educational activity of the Department, providing high quality teaching to students at postgraduate level (Level 7) and engaging in research to support teaching, learning and assessment innovations. 

The specific focus of the post holder will be to support the development and delivery of the MSc in Analytical Toxicology. This will include direct engagement with students in the form of lectures, laboratory sessions, turotials and workshops, assessment of student work, and module organisation. The post holder will also assist in the organisation, supervision and running of the MSc research projects.

The post holder will work closely with the Programme Director and Module Leads to develop the content and facilitate their delivery.

We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in Biochemical, Clinical & Forensic Toxicology. 

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 12 months. 

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent

•       Participate in the management, development and delivery of modules for the MSc in Analytical Toxicology 

•       Organise and assist with the delivery, supervision and running of the MSc research projects

•       Deliver teaching that is innovative, creates interest and engenders enthusiasm amongst students 

•       Engage in some campus-based laboratory teaching and supervision  

•       Support the Module Lead(s) with preparatory work, teaching, formative feedback, marking of summative assessments and reassessment, preparation of content for learning activities, discussion board facilitation and online tutorials

•       Support innovations in teaching, learning and assessment, including     development and delivery of online teaching.

•       With the Programme Lead ensure that quality assurance processes and timescales for delivery are met

•       Support innovations in teaching, learning and assessment

•       Engage in continuous professional development to support quality teaching and learning

•       Act as personal tutor for students, providing pastoral care, helping students to meet the learning objectives of the programme and resolving enquiries

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.  

Essential criteria 

•       PhD in Analytical Toxicology or related field  

•       Knowledge of Analytical/Forensic Toxicology 

•       Ability to work effectively in a diverse university environment, sharing knowledge and skills with the teaching team (both campus and online) 

•       Ability to work under pressure to achieve goals and meet deadlines 

•       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

•       Experience of postgraduate taught teaching and learning  

•       Understanding of distance learning and online teaching delivery  

Desirable criteria 

•       Co-ordination and administration of educational modules at level 7 

•       Excellent IT skills including knowledge of course creating and delivery on Moodle or similar VLE  

•       Experience of supervising and supporting students
