The University of Pittsburgh English Department invites applications for the position of Teaching Assistant Professor to take a leadership role in our growing beyond-the-classroom and experiential learning curriculum. The Teaching Assistant Professorship is a full-time renewable position for an initial term of three years with the opportunity for renewal and promotion. The position will begin on September 1, 2023.
This is a position within the Literature program open to any specialization, although the ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach a broad range of literature, genres, and topics. The successful candidate will also have experience: in creating inter-community learning partnerships with organizations and institutions both within and beyond the university (ideally with those that represent typically underrepresented communities and knowledge); teaching literary texts in relationship to larger contestations of cultural value; and building innovative experiences and projects in which students learn and employ an expanded set of creative-critical skills and techniques.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in English, Literature, or a related field by the time of appointment (September 1, 2023). This position comes with a 3/3 teaching load, with the expectation of service to the Literature program and English Department. Service may include assessment, course development support, and faculty workshops.
