Summary of Duties:
This is a 12-month appointment, consisting of 60% FTE instruction, and 40% FTE international teaching assistants (ITA) and Accreditation Coordination, on the IALC faculty, which requires a master’s degree in TESOL or a related field that meets the Commission on English Language Accreditation’s (CEA) formal education requirements for faculty. In addition, the candidate should have significant Academic English and/or Bridge teaching experience at the post-secondary level. The candidate should meet all required criteria in a faculty search for the department (see below position description example).
The Office of International Programs (IP)-Intensive American Language Center (IALC) faculty teach Academic English, and Undergraduate Foundation and International Master’s programs to bring international students to Washington State University and support their success. Our faculty are front and center in supporting international students’ development of English language proficiency to help them meet their academic, personal, and professional goals in a rigorous university environment. The IP- Academic English Program has been widely recognized as a top provider of English for Academic Purposes in the United States.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, or equivalent education/language teaching experience. (Equivalent degrees: MA or Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, MAT in ESL, EFL, or ELL, Ph.D. in TESL, M.Ed. showing significant coursework in the areas of Applied Linguistics and ESL pedagogy)
Experience working in an environment where strong organizational and time management skills were necessary.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word.
Experience working within a frequently changing environment.
Previous English as a Second Language teaching experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in multinational, multicultural and/or multilingual environment.
Speaks or has taken classes in a foreign language.
Experience studying or teaching abroad.
Experience in developing teaching materials.
Experience in a content/theme-based intensive English program.
