Compensation 

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. 

  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate – $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate – $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
  • In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. 

Duties 

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications 

1. Minimum 4th Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.

2. Must have previously completed CHYS 3P47 or equivalent*, and obtained 80% or higher. Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 3P47 will be considered as equivalent.

3. Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students. Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.

4. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency. For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00). For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description. Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
