Principles of Community Engagement in Child and Youth Studies

Compensation 

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. 

  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate – $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate – $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
  • In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties 

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications 

1. Minimum 3rd Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program. Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader for CHYS 2F16 or CHYS 2P16 or CHYS 2F15 or CHYS 2P15 will be considered as equivalent.

2 .Must have previously completed CHYS 2F16 or CHYS 2P16 or CHYS 2F15 or CHYS 2P15 or equivalent*, and obtained 80% or higher. Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader for CHYS 2F16 or CHYS 2P16 or CHYS 2F15 or CHYS 2P15 will be considered as equivalent.

3. Demonstrated successful experience in seminar administration for an on-line course, or as a marker-grader for an on-line course.

4. Demonstrated successful experience grading on-line (i.e., Sakai, Brightspace).

5. Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students. Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.

6. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

(i.e., XXXX 3P00). For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description.
