Teacher – POOL

The Instructional Support Assistant I is responsible for the educational program in the Child and Family Center, overseeing the health and safety of the children, implementing programming, providing needed administrative support, and other duties as assigned by the Center Director or Chair of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. 

Key Responsibilities

• Supports the supervision and oversight of toddler and preschool classrooms.
• Prepares a healthy and safe environment for children, staff, student teachers and parents.
• Provides support and supervision in both preschool and toddler classrooms as needed to maintain licensing and accreditation standards and guidelines.
• Coordinates the development of the education curriculum and outdoor classroom environment.
• Provides supervision to the student teachers or placement students.
• Performs administrative tasks and support.
• Coordinates and helps to maintain the classrooms to meet Licensing and NAEYC Accreditation.
• Document behaviors, napping, incidents for parent sharing.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

 Knowledge of planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages 18 months – 5 years.

Ability to maintain a safe work environment. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university’s commitment to a “vision of excellence.”

Instructional Support Assistant I

Education and Experience

Equivalent to six months of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment required. Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development/Family Studies or related field preferred. Equivalent to one year of teaching experience in a childcare setting for children ages 18 months – 3 years old, and 3 years – 5 years old preferred. Experience in supervision of staff or student teachers preferred.  Teaching experience in an NAEYC Accredited program preferred.

License/Certifications:

Required:

• Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
• LiveScan is required due to working with children.

Preferred:

• Possession/In process of Child Development Permit- Master Teacher Level, or higher, from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Compensation

The salary range for this classification is $3,338.00 to 4,773.00/month.

The hourly salary range for this classification is $19.26 to $27.54.

Time Base

This is a Temporary, Emergency Hire, and/or hourly intermittent appointment. No probationary period. No permanent status is granted.

The purpose of this recruitment is to produce a pool of qualified applicants to call upon for temporary appointments. Successful candidates may be appointed from a few days up to 6 months depending on the assignment. Temporary appointments may be canceled or extended at any time.
