Our flagship advanced manufacturing program at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), the Manufacturing Futures Institute (MFI), combines cyber information technologies, manufacturing technologies and social sciences to create a highly collaborative advanced manufacturing research ecosystem that drives the digital transformation of manufacturing, accelerates the translation of associated research discoveries toward commercialization, and advances the methodologies and technologies to enhance the workforce.
MFI at CMU is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the growth of its advanced manufacturing research and education programs at our new 58,000 sq. ft. advanced manufacturing facility, Mill 19 at Hazelwood Green. The partnership of CMU and the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute at Mill19 enables the combined team to engage in efforts that span from basic and applied research to development projects that de-risk technology solutions for direct transition to industry.
The successful candidate will work alongside faculty, students and staff in a dynamic environment to support the needs of the advanced manufacturing research projects at Mill 19. The role will interface with MFI partners within Mill 19 (the ARM Institute and Catalyst Connection) plus industry and government partners.
Responsibilities will include:

Develop, implement, and integrate robotic systems to support research in areas of manipulation, path planning, human intention prediction, etc.

Develop, implement, and operate an assembly/dis-assembly digital twin testbed at Mill 19.

Develop, implement, and operate additional testbed opportunities
-
Oversee the implementation and use of a digital backbone for the facility
-
Interaction with students (including training and guiding)
-
Interaction with partners involved in the digital twin testbed, including representation of the technical aspects of the testbeds with potential partners

Interaction with small and medium sized companies wanting to improve robotics capability (supporting regional BBB program objectives)

Maintain a code base for the Manufacturing Futures Institute consisting of application specific code developed by project teams

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science (Master’s degree preferred)
