About us:

The Office of the Vice-Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education (OVPIUE) works closely with the Office of the Vice-Provost Students (OVPS) and the Division of Student Life to support institutional initiatives that enhance the educational and co-curricular experience of students in the University’s seven direct-entry undergraduate academic divisions and beyond.

OVPIUE directly administers, advises, or partners on a number of critical institutional programs and services including, but not limited to:
• Institutional systems and initiatives relating to experiential learning and undergraduate research such as the Forum on Experiential Learning (FEL) and the Experiential LearningHub website;
• Institutional teaching awards and grants;
• Enterprise-level educational technology systems, platforms, and projects (Learning Management System, learning analytics, student academic success analytics and reporting, course information system);
• Engagement with external organizations on teaching and learning-related matters (interinstitutional transfer agreements, government grants and performance-based funding reporting requirements, online learning platforms).

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Teaching Initiatives and the Associate Director, Student Success, you will be part of a dynamic, collaborative and innovative team creating, implementing, and supporting software that enhances the student experience and supports career services, the Co-Curricular Record and experiential learning applications. You will work in cross functional teams with UX designers, developers, analysts and stakeholders on new and existing products using established methodologies including Agile development processes.

The University of Toronto plans to implement an enterprise Symplicity application, UniHub, to support shared-service units and academic divisions in transforming the student experience related to experiential learning, career service supports and the Co-Curricular Record. This innovative solution will streamline the student and staff experience, ensure consistent and transparent service delivery, support a seamless and engaging student experience, and increase administrative efficiencies.

As the Symplicity System Administrator and Product Lead, you will play a critical role in the implementation, support and enhancement of the Symplicity UniHub initiative. Drawing upon your robust technical knowledge, significant experience with other career service management and student engagement platforms (i.e., Orbis Outcome, Symplicity CSM, etc.) and the ability to translatebusiness requirements that drive process changes and workflow changes within these environments, you will collaborate with stakeholders to help achieve our strategic initiatives and mature the University’s experiential learning, career services andCCR technology environment. This includes ongoing configuration and product management of the University’s enterprise UniHub application.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and planning IT projects
  • Analyzing, recommending, and designing highly complex software architecture
  • Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide applications
  • Analyzing and making recommendations for programming enhancements
  • Analyzing, recommending and designing technical solutions for highly complex IT problems
  • Providing detailed information on system specifications to clients
  • Evaluating systems/software to determine if client needs are met
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering; or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years recent and related experience, including with career service management, experiential learning and co-curricular record platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with IT project implementation, including developing project schedules
  • Demonstrated experience configuring, designing, testing, and modifying processes and workflows within the SaaS platforms, and ensuring they adhere to industry standards, and are testable
  • Experience developing technical application implementation plans
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting database and web servers
  • Experience supporting stakeholder consultations to identify and implement core functional requirements and support effective communications and change management
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), including strong presentation and graphical communication skills
  • Proven ability to work well with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to create, communicate, and implement technical visions
  • Proven ability to find solutions to difficult and complex problems and to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability and inclination to keep technical skills up-to-date and relevant
  • Ability to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of personal data
  • Highly proficient with managing and creating user access roles within career service management environments

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 16 — $91,328 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $116,794. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
