Job Description Overview

The Systems Accessibility Analyst will promote accessibility in the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) as defined by the Ohio State ADA Coordinator. Ensures new software is evaluated and necessary accommodations and/or remediation are negotiated prior to purchase. Ensures that existing software is evaluated in a timely manner and based on risk, and that proper accommodations and/or remediation efforts are planned and carried through. Consults with units in ERIK to evaluation their products and recommend designs and development strategies to improve the accessibility of their product. Assists the software development team on prototyping new applications and compliance testing prior to software releases.

The role will be responsible to ensure an appropriate audit trail is maintained for all evaluations and that accommodation/remediation efforts are tracked and reported. Plans and carries out events to raise awareness of accessibility in ERIK. Offers training opportunities in how to create accessible documents and on best practices in accessible design and coding.

The Systems Accessibility Analyst will support staff to make the digital pieces they create accessible. They will work with other units on campus and in the big ten to share information about software purchases and accessibility updates on existing software. They will perform a yearly audit to make sure staff have taken needed and training as well as an audit of software to verify that it has been checked for accessibility. They will manually test software and suggest accommodations and/or remediation that needs to happen to make it accessible. Will work to stay up to date on accessibility requirements and best practices.

Minimum Education Requirement

Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent education/experience          

Required and Desired Qualifications

Required: At least 2-years’ experience creating and implementing new processes in an information technology (IT) organization. Experience training users to use software. Understanding of HTML, Javascript, and CSS. Experience testing for and remediation of accessibility barriers in web, mobile and native applications. Experience working with developers to guide development of accessible user interfaces. Experience with software prototyping. Familiar with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as well as Section 508 of the United States Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Strong organizational skills demonstrating the ability to work on multiple projects and manage priorities. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Desired: An understanding and passion for accessibility issues. Deep understanding of tools to aid in accessibility evaluation. Experience working with people with disabilities. Experience in regulatory compliance. Significant knowledge of current and emerging accessible development practice and assistive technology. Fluency with disability law and regulation in the higher education context. Ability to do a manual digital accessibility test for websites and software. Familiar with a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) and how to interpret one provided by a vendor.

Additional Information:

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $67,700 to $69,000. This position will have a hybrid work arrangement with time both working on-site and remotely.
