Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills to include strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Intermediate computer operations knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex rules, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to safely lift and move items, operate handtrucks, pallet jack, obtain forklift certification.
  • Hire contingent upon successful background check and driving record verification.

Typical Experience:
Preferred two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Education or Training:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Alaska Driver’s License (must meet and maintain UAA safe driver verification criteria).

Salary Information:

This is a part-time, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , Grade 75, based on education and experience.

This position will work 30 hours/week, Monday through Friday. Hours may be added as workload dictates. 

The Surplus Technician assists in Surplus property pick up/delivery, managing surplus property inventory, posting of items on an online platform for reallocation and/or sale, as well as relocation tasks at the Anchorage campus. Position will also be cross trained in Mailroom duties and be expected to assist in other areas of GSS as needed and deemed appropriate. Must be highly dependable and comfortable with the physical requirements of the position, with a strong work ethic and positive approach. Current, valid Alaska Driver’s License required with clean driving record.  Copy of current DMV record will be required and applicants must meet and maintain UA safe driver criteria. Background check will also be required as a condition of employment (processed by the university).
