Nature of Work:

The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology has a full-time (1.0) FTE faculty position at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practictioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this postion provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services primarily at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) and occasionally at Highlands Ranch Hospital (HRH). 

Job Resonsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for surgical oncology patients. These duties will include inpatient responsibilites such as rounding, writing orders, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management and discharge activities. Close collaboration with surgical oncology surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists and hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and primary care providers is essential. the candidate will provide care to patients on the inpatient wards, in the intensive care unit, acute care areas, occassionaly assist  in the OR and in the outpatient clinics. The NP?PA will be a critical part of service continuity and alsoe a link between the inpatient and outpatient environments for patients. The census and acuity of clinical activity waries service to service and NP/PAs may at times be asked to provide cross coverage clinical care on different services and locations to deal with this issue. This position is primarily for night coverage, but will occasionally require coverage of days, weekend and holiday shifts. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master’s Degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
• Meets and  maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practictioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of experience in surgical oncology preferred.
