Summary

 

The investigator will be is responsible for evaluating data quality, preparing data, generating insights, and developing and presenting high-impact data stories for quality improvement and other research projects using surgical data to improve trauma and critical care quality at Harris Health Ben Taub; collaborating with faculty and residents to disseminate these findings through intramural and extramural research efforts; developing grant proposals; and mentoring trainees.

 

Essential Functions and Duties:

 

  • Build and test statistical, optimization, and machine learning models, including regression, classification, clustering, natural language processing, deep learning, and/or statistical modeling using surgical data.
  • Develop algorithms and predictive models to solve critical business problems in trauma and surgical critical care. 
  • Provide statistical and advanced analytics expertise to develop plans for surgical care projects.
  • Work with surgical faculty and residents and other collaborators on data preparation, feature engineering, and model development choices to organize and deliver high quality care, prevent errors in the delivery of acute trauma and surgical care and implement safer and more efficient trauma and critical surgical care.
  • Contribute to health policy related to the implementation science of enhanced trauma and surgical critical care in partnership with the Baker Institute at Rice University.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required Education and Experience: Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, statistics, engineering, or analytics is required in addition to 2 years of healthcare industry experience. Successful track record of collaboration with clinical investigators and in interdisciplinary teams; successful track record of training students and postdoctoral fellows; accomplished academic record sufficient to fulfill criteria for an assistant professor level faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine.
