Dynamic-covalent bonding offers a powerful approach to creating stable yet reversible structures and materials which respond to specific environmental cues such as temperature or pH. By understanding these reversible interactions and their interplay under biological conditions, we can design innovative materials that can address critical challenges in healthcare, including medical device associated infections and the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
This project focusses on developing materials incorporating dynamic-covalent bonding moieties, designed to respond under biologically relevant conditions. These materials will be explored for applications such as, bacteria-responsive coatings, controlled drug release systems and supramolecular sensing materials. This will necessitate a hard working and driven individual with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, this coupled with a readiness to acquire interdisciplinary skills in areas such as rheology and microbiology. Association with LUCES (Supramolecular LUminescent Chemosensors for Environmental Security) COST Action, provides opportunity to engage with funded training schools and dissemination activities across Europe, enhancing research mobility of the successful candidate.
Funding for this project is for 3 years and applicants should contact Dr Hannah Crory (hannah.crory@qub.ac.uk) for any queries related to the project.
Applications will only be considered if they are submitted via the QUB Direct Application portal https://myportal.qub.ac.uk/SignIn?ReturnUrl=%2Fpg-admission-application-list%2F
