Job Summary The Office of Professional and Continuing Education is home to Auburn Youth Programs which operates academic, athletic, cheer, and dance summer camps for over 4,000 students throughout the summer. Camp counselors and staff will help Auburn Youth Programs bring our summer camps to life and help our campers have a unique experience at Auburn University.

Counselor:
A successful Counselor will be an Auburn student with a passion for impacting and serving youth. We’re looking for an individual that can lead and supervise camp participants in a variety of different activities. Counselors work in teams, led by a Lead Counselor, to ensure the smooth and safe operations of all AYP camps and programs and to create an extraordinary Auburn Experience for camp participants. Meals and overnight accommodations provided while working. Counselors and Staff must provide their own housing and dining while the camp is not in session. Students in this position can not take summer classes.
Head Counselor:
A successful Head Counselor will be an Auburn Student with prior leadership or camp experience and a passion for impacting and serving youth. We’re looking for an individual that can lead and supervise the execution of camp from working with lead counselors to coordinating any adjustments with campus partners. The Head Counselor oversees each camp and ensures that all aspects are running smoothly, to ensure the smooth and safe operations of all AYP camps and programs and to create an extraordinary Auburn Experience for camp participants. Meals and overnight accommodations provided while working. Students in this position can not take summer classes.
Head of Staff:
A successful Head of Staff will be an Auburn Student with prior leadership or camp experience and a passion for impacting and serving youth. We’re looking for an individual that will lead a group of staff members to support the smooth and safe operations of all AYP camps and programs and to create an extraordinary Auburn Experience for camp participants.
Housing and meals provided while the camp is in session.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current enrolled student at Auburn University for at least one year.
    • Enrolled and taking classes during the semester of employment; or
    • Not enrolled in classes for the semester of employment, but enrolled in the previous semester and enrolled for the following semester (this includes the summer semester).
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be at least 19 years old on June 1, 2023, pass a background check, and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must have the patience, understanding, flexibility, and energy to work and live with campers and other counselors
  • Must be willing to sacrifice, adapt, and work hard as part of a team
  • Must be able to take care of others and display a positive attitude at all times
  • Serve as an ambassador for Auburn University and role model for all students
  • Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Staff must be capable of physical labor (i.e. lifting approximately 20 lbs. or more)
Preferred Qualifications Previous summer camp counselor experience or experience working with 6th – 12th grade students preferred.
Pay Rate $410.00 – $560.00/week
Work Hours 40 (summer only)
