The University Library has an established and highly regarded track record in supporting the development of the academic study skills that students need.  This essential part of the Library’s services provides students with core information and training on these study skills, as well as information literacy.  Alongside the service provided by Library staff through the Skills Team, the ability for students to support their fellow students is also fostered through the use of peer-to-peer engagement, making use of the internationally used PASS scheme (branded locally as Peer-Assisted Student Success).  For many students, the skills required to succeed at University are those they will learn whilst at the University, and the provision of support to ensure they can develop those skills effectively is thus vital to ensuring their overall success.

We are pleased to make available a 12-month fixed-term opportunity for a recent graduate to contribute to the success of current students.  The post will suit an individual who wishes to learn about the provision of skills support and feed in their own ideas based on having been a recent student.  Across the year there will be key areas of focus and attention for the role, including assisting with the delivery of the PASS scheme, skills resource maintenance and development, social media promotion, and ensuring that resources continue to be accessible to all to meet the needs of those with disabilities.  Candidates will also be invited to contribute to the work of the Skills Team in other areas of interest alongside these, according to preference and development interest.

This post will work well for an individual who enjoys working with students and supporting their development, especially through the application of digital technologies.  If you would like to discuss the role, please contact Laura Giles, Academic & Library Specialist, at [email protected]
