Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Studio Manager, the Studio Supervisor
maintains the continuity and flow of Studio Operations during afternoons, nights, and weekends. The Studio Supervisor monitors the recording studios and production suites of Berklee’s Boston campus and helps maintain an extensive inventory of vintage and modern equipment; provides engineering support and technical assistance to Faculty and Students on an array of highly specialized & advanced audio technologies, software and web applications. The Studio Supervisor collaboratively oversees a group of 50 studio assistants hired through Student Employment’s work-study program. The 32 ATF recording studios and suites are in operation 22 hours per day, seven days per week and serve thousands of music technology students, visiting artist events, major residencies, faculty and chair grant recordings, pan-college service and community outreach projects.
Essential Functions/Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains continuity and flow of the studio operation by ensuring that sessions start and end on time and that all proper procedures and rules pertaining to studio use are adhered to.
Supervises Studio Assistants during scheduled shifts
Maintains security and supervises engineers, assistants, producers, and musicians utilizing the facilities.
Provides engineering support & technical assistance/troubleshooting for classes, student sessions, daytime recording ensembles, grant sessions, and visiting artist events in the recording studios and production suites.
Supervises access to student/faculty media assets and check-out equipment
Keep detailed records and submit reports of facility and equipment use, technical issues, and policy infractions using FileMaker Pro databases and web-based administrative software
Inspect a photo-based security log to help monitor facilities and ensure the safety of valuable equipment
Train new studio assistants on policies, day-to-day procedures, and troubleshooting methods
Coordinate with the WTD Booking Office to update and maintain an accurate session schedule
Conduct various orientation sessions at the start of each semester to introduce new users to the facilities and promote the proper handling and care of equipment
Software and hardware testing: execute test plans, document results updates and train in revised technical support techniques for new installations
Reports non-standard practices to the Manager
Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities Required
Highly developed skills in DAW operation, audio recording and mixing, signal flow, microphone techniques, console workflow, analog and digital multitrack recording formats, MIDI, modern audiovisual systems, and surround sound.
Proficiency with audio software technologies such as, but not limited to, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reason, Ableton Live, Nuendo, Finale, Sibelius, and MuseScore, as well as various audio plug-ins and virtual instruments.
Experience using recording/mixing consoles, interfaces, and controllers such as, but not limited to, the Neve 88RS; SSL Duality SE; API Legacy Plus and 1608; Avid HDX systems, S3, S6, XMon, MTRX, Artist Control and Artist Mix.
Ability to function well under pressure and maintain stellar customer service.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail.
Experience with Mac and Windows operating systems and software testing, including writing test plans and documenting results.
Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
Robust knowledge of web browsers, caching issues, multimedia plug-ins, and conferencing software.
Familiarity with video creation and editing, and/or screen capture software such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro, or ScreenFlow.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience working at a higher education institution or within online education is a plus.
Experience with Workday, Colleague, Informer, and Google Data Studio is a plus.
Minimum Job Qualifications
B.A. in Music Production and Engineering or an undergraduate degree in a similar music technology program
1-2 years of experience in a commercial recording facility
Ability to carry 50 lbs. (23 kg) up and down stairs
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC.
(Responsible for on-call, 24 HR. coverage, etc.):
Shifts scheduled overnight and on weekends
Coverage necessary for regularly scheduled shifts
