Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Studio Operations, the Studio Operations Supervisor maintains the continuity and flow of Studio Operations throughout their scheduled shifts. The Supervisor manages a staff of Studio Operations student employees in support of 31 Recording Studios that function 22 hours per day, seven days per week and serves up to 1500 MTD students, visiting artist events, major residencies, faculty and grant recordings, pan-college service and community outreach projects. The Studio Operations Supervisor provides students with training, information and guidance on technical issues and professional session protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains continuity and flow of the studio operation by ensuring that sessions start and end on time and that all proper procedures and rules pertaining to studio use are adhered to.

  • Enforces regulations and policies pertaining to the proper use of facilities. 

  • Provides comprehensive training and support to students on the use of large format analog and digital audio consoles including the API Legacy, SSL Duality, Euphonix System 5 and Neve 88R. 

  • Performs “troubleshooting” as it pertains to equipment maintenance and provides temporary workaround solutions if necessary.

  • Performs weekly equipment inventory and studio hardware maintenance

  • Maintains security and supervises engineers, assistants, producers, and musicians utilizing the facilities. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of studio equipment including: Solid State Logic Duality, API Legacy, Neve VR, and Euphonix CS Series audio consoles with automated mixing, ProTools digital audio recording/editing systems, digital interface technology, vintage microphones, analog multitrack recording formats, MIDI software and hardware, video technology, and surround sound monitor systems. 

  • Basic understanding of recording studio maintenance.

  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot student technical problems and effectively communicate solutions.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage student employees in support of Studio Operations. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in music recording and mixing, music production and engineering, or similar program

  • 1-3 year’s experience in a commercial music recording facility operations and maintenance

  • Familiarity with undergraduate recording engineering and production curriculum, as recording studio operations, is preferred. 

  • This position may provide an opportunity for limited remote work.
