The Student Welfare Advisor considers student wellbeing as a core priority to enhance the student experience and facilitates student progress in tertiary studies. The Student Welfare Advisor provides a suite of services to support students’ financial literacy and financial position, accommodation circumstances, personal safety, diversity and inclusion, and other programs and information services that support an inclusive tertiary experience.

This position will be based at the Toowoomba Campus.


About Us:

Co-led by the Academic Registrar and the Dean (Students), the Students Portfolio is committed to enhancing the student experience and supporting the success of students. Through a range of support services, experiences and student-focused strategies, the Portfolio is involved in all phases of the student lifecycle, from application to graduation.

The Wellbeing team is a multi-disciplinary team contributing to the wellbeing of UniSQ students, enhancing the student experience and supporting progression in tertiary studies. This team provides direct services to students through psychological services and welfare support, and works with academic staff on curricular and co-curricular initiatives to promote student wellbeing. Extra-curricular wellness initiatives include Mental Health First Aid, By-Stander Awareness, the coordinator of the Ally and other inclusivity programs, and other programs to support psychological and physical safety of UniSQ students.


What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Manager (Wellbeing), you will:

  • Contribute to the development and provision of services and programs relating to key priority areas for students in relation to their welfare, including guidance, information and advice as required on matters pertaining to finance, accommodation, legal services, childcare, and student safety.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with external organisations to increase services to students and aid in referral pathways,
  • Provide strategic advice in relation to relevant trends and issues, and
  • Contribute to formal report writing and evaluation of service delivery.

What will help you succeed:

  • A degree in human/social services, community services, psychology or education with relevant experience,
  • Proven ability to provide guidance and information on a range of welfare needs such as accommodation, finance or personal crises to a diverse student population,
  • Applied knowledge of current equity and diversity issues as they affect Australian higher education students,
  • Demonstrated experience in organising and prioritising projects and tasks to achieve high-quality work outcomes, and
  • Accurate record-keeping and preparation of reports and evaluation data.
