Student Support Adviser (Disability/Mental Health)

In recent years, in terms of Higher Education, Student Support has seen rapid development. As a result, there has been a noticeable increase in institutional responsibilities and raised student expectations.
The University of Aberdeen Student Advice & Support team is seeking to recruit a new Student Support Adviser to ensure that students are supported with a range of individual requirements. This will involve working closely with individual students, as well as with a range of University colleagues. The role will have a primary focus in supporting disabled students, assessing individual needs, recommending reasonable adjustments and arranging support in line with policies such as Support for Study. There is additional scope for the postholder to specialise in delivering support to those with mental health conditions.

The postholder will have a primary role in supporting disabled students. This includes understanding individuals’ learning differences and medical conditions as well as assessing their needs in a learning environment and assisting in the setup of lecture and examination provisions for students. The role will involve considering applications for funds for financial assistance including Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) and SAAS Discretionary Funds. The role will also include supporting our duty advice service, providing frontline advice and responding to student crises. If specialising in support for students with mental health issues, the postholder will become involved in review and enhancement of policies and processes related to mental health and “individuals in crisis”.
The successful applicant will be a graduate and will have extensive experience of supporting disabled people or those with mental health issues and a good understanding of their support needs and reasonable adjustments.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, £35,333 – £42,155 per annum with placement according to qualifications and experience.
