The Opportunity:

The Student Resource Specialist II position is primarily responsible for the administration of the workflow of student and college petitions for academic record changes from initial advising of students, intake, processing and recording of documents, and finally distribution to other offices for their processing.

Responsibilities:  

  • Manages all procedures related to student and college academic petitions including late drop, late withdrawal, medical withdrawal, and academic waivers.  Accepts and logs submissions; coordinates collection of appropriate documentation; communicates approval/non-approval to appropriate parties; securely archives appropriate documents.

  • Performs initial advisement of student related to student petitions including email inquiries.  Explain or clarify academic policies to students and make appropriate referrals to other campus resources as necessary. Maintains accurate records of advising activities.

  • Communicates with colleges, campuses, and offices concerning submission and appropriate processing of college and University level academic petitions, including grade changes, late adds, late withdrawals, late drops, university waivers, and others as appropriate.

  • Assists in ensuring that University policies concerning student and college academic petitions for undergraduate courses are effectively communicated to all students, staff, faculty, and administration through the undergraduate catalog, appropriate websites, handouts and flyers, presentation at advisor meetings and other means.

  • Coordinates with other units (such as the Student Accounts, Financial Aid, International Services Center, Office of Institutional Equity, Student Care Services) to properly document academic petitions.

  • Serves as liaison for the Removal of Medical Hold Committee in reviewing applications from students.  Prepares applications and documentations for presentation to the Committee.  Coordinates submission deadline dates (including updating the website), scheduling Committee meetings and notifying students of decisions.

  • Revises forms used in academic record change requests from students, colleges and other departments ensuring that all forms are up to date. Consults with the General Counsel’s Office and appropriate University authorities, as necessary.     

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer service experience specially in assisting students in distress.

  • Knowledge of higher education, UCF and Registrar’s Office policies and procedures.

  • Ability to interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures, experience in sound decision making and problem assessment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to handle difficult situations and to work with a diverse student population.
