Student Programs Advisor III

The mission of the Keck School of Medicine’s Academic and Career Advising unit is to provide comprehensive advising for medical students in a one-stop service model.  Medical student are assigned an advisor that will guide them through the residency selection process and advise them on academic requirements up until degree completion.

The Associate Director of Career Advising will lead this effort under the direction of the Director of Student Affairs and the Associate/Assistant Deans of Student Affairs.  Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee day to day operations of academic scheduling for M3 and M4 students and career advising and career exploration programs for all medical students.
  • Develop and manage the year III and IV scheduling processes.  Interface with clinical departments and the Office of Curriculum in developing schedules and managing capacity.
  • Oversee activities to support the residency application process including the interview workshop, personal statement workshop, mock interviews, ERAS photos and Match Day.  Prepare and distribute reports on advisee’s residency application status including number of programs applied to and interviews scheduled for departmental advisor and Associate Dean for Student Affairs.  Coordinate assignments of third-year students to Clinical Faculty Advisors.
  • Meet with students about schedules, specialty selection, personal statements.
  • Oversee preparation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluations. Supervise staff managing MSPE edits and the review of MSPE by students and the Associate Dean, and upload into ERAS.
  • Administer student satisfaction surveys and prepare reports of the results for the Associate Dean and the Department of Medical Education.  Develop reports on residency application and match rates for the Associate/Assistant dean and for institutional and external constituencies.
  • Work with Registrar to develop policies and procedures related to third and fourth-year rotation scheduling.
  • Collaborate with the specialty specific student interest groups to support career exploration programming.
  • Maintains professional currency through participation in associations such as the Association of American Medical College’s Careers in Medicine program, committees, workshops and other means of networking. Represents university and/or unit, as assigned or appropriate.

Minimum Education: Master’s degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Student personnel administration
