Student Assistant for an Internship/Master Thesis – Development and Assessment of Communication Framework in a HIL Co-simulation Model of Multi-modal Energy Systems

Your Job:

In our research group, at IEK-10, Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and co-simulation methods are studied to simulate multi-modal energy systems and test devices applied in these systems under safe and flexible conditions.
Within this framework, an MQTT gateway has been developed to manage the communication between simulated models and the controllers. To assess the performance of the gateway, dedicated tests must be performed considering a communication network under critical conditions (e.g. within an emulated communication network with congestions and package losses) and a large number of controllers (e.g. Raspberry Pi).

Your possible tasks will include:

• Literature research on the topic
• Development of a HIL framework integrating a large number of controllers
• Development and execution of various test scenarios
• Evaluation and optimization of the gateway performance in the framework

Your Profile:

• Ongoing Master studies in the field of Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Computer Science or related subjects
• Interests and basic knowledge in energy system simulation (preferably Simulink), real-time simulation, co-simulation and HIL
• Basic knowledge and experience in information and communication technology, preferably MQTT and UDP
• Good knowledge of a programming language, preferably MATLAB and Python
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
• Independent working style and good analytical skills, willing to learn new things
