  • Part-time (0.6FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis for 12 months
  • Base salary range: Level 5 $ 73,982 – $ 81,999 p.a. pro-rata plus 17% superannuation

About the team

The Centre for English Language Teaching (UWA CELT) works to enhance recognition of UWA internationally by providing high quality intensive English language programs. It contributes to UWA’s priorities and operations through its expertise in the teaching, learning and testing of the English language and through its international promotional activities. Within this context, UWA CELT’s annual turnover of around $8M from tuition and test fee income enables it to be self-funding whilst making a contribution to services for the University’s students. UWA CELT is  part of the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and has key a role in supporting and furthering the University’s international strategies.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under limited direction, be responsible to the Centre Manager, Centre for English Language Teaching and primarily support the development and implementation of an activities program aimed at enhancing the extracurricular student experience of international students studying at the Centre for English Language Teaching. This includes coordinating, scheduling, disseminating information and implementing student social activities, orientation and graduation sessions to engender a strong social connection and sense of community within the student body.

About you 

You will possess significant experience in planning activities for students, ideally gained in organisations that provide English language courses. Your high-level interpersonal skills and experience communicating with clients from non-English language background will be critical to succeed in this role.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent competency
  • Substantial relevant administrative experience in working with students
  • Highly motivated and an ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team
  • A high degree of sensitivity and appropriate responsiveness to cultural diversity
  • An extensive understanding of the issues and challenges facing international students
  • Awareness of International Student visa obligations, application and enrolment processes preferred
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and structures
