Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, this position works as a member of the UW-Madison, Grounds Asphalt/Concrete Construction Crew. Primary asphalt duties involve inspecting, maintaining, repairing, replacing, and constructing new asphalt structures to include all the asphalt roads, parking lots, and bike paths on the UW-Madison Campus. Follow blueprints to proper size and grades required for forming grade surface and new construction of existing asphalt for proper grade, crown, and pitch. Prepare for proper sub-base and compaction. Primary concrete duties include inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and installing new concrete sidewalks, curbs, steps, pads, etc. Remove old material, set forms to grade, pour concrete, and finish surfaces as necessary. Install and maintain outdoor signs and fences, and participate in the snow removal operation.

Responsibilities: Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed.

  • 60% Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 5% Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 5% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 5% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
  • 5% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
  • 10% Landscaping and retaining wall building
  • 10% Perform snow removal using a variety of equipment.
