Position Summary
This Staff Scientist position will examine data primarily related to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease (late onset and genetic etiologies), biomarkers (primarily imaging [PET, MRI, fMRI]), and functional measures. The candidate may also work in other diseases including neuroAIDS. The candidate will participate at all levels of research-related activities, including data analysis using various statistical packages, design of experiments across a range of studies, and preparation of reports.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator, design research protocol, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data.
  • Assist in developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis and documentation of experiment results.
  • Conduct cross-sectional and longitudinal multivariate statistical analyses.
  • Clean, combine, and process large datasets from different sources and manage the curated databases for analyses including cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses.
  • Conduct literature searches related to research project and keep abreast of the field.
  • Perform complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes methodological and interpretative reports. Verify the correctness of the data submitted and make recommendations based on these analyses.
  • Document research topics and prepare and submit papers based on lab research to journals for publications and presentation to peers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret biomarker data (including neuroimaging, blood, real world driving) and perform statistical analyses and communicate results in a clear, concise manner.
  • Serve as a statistical consultant in collaborative studies involving the medical school community.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages (R, Python, SAS, Matlab) to analyze data.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree with four years of experience in research lab operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling nine years.

Salary Range
$46,100.00 – $83,600.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
