Job Description:

The Thielen Student Health Center is a full-service medical clinic in Ames, Iowa. We’re currently looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team! Our team is available to care for the Iowa State University students’ primary health care needs.  We understand the unique needs of students – things like working around your schedule to help you make an appointment or helping you transfer your medical records and prescriptions from home to school.  We provide an inclusive, non-judgmental environment where our diverse student body is treated with dignity and respect in a non-discriminatory way.  If you have a passion for helping students, we are looking for you!

The Nurse position utilizes assessment skills, critical thinking, nursing judgement and triaging of patient symptoms to implement the planning and delivery of nursing care based on the identified needs of each individual patient. The nurse also evaluates and modifies the care provided within the scope of practice for a registered nurse. This position involves working with a multidisciplinary team and includes collaboration and interaction with physicians, nurse practitioners, other registered nurses, LPN’s, CMA’s, laboratory, Xray, and pharmacy staff to deliver appropriate and timely care to our patient population. This position also includes providing immunizations, IV therapy, travel clinic services, triage services, international health screenings, and many other duties at some of the seasonal off-site clinics based on student population needs. In addition to hands on skills, this position will assist in presentations in the classrooms, and other collaboration needs within the Iowa State Community. The successful candidate will possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to demonstrate excellent teamwork, assessment, and critical thinking skills.
