Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Healthcare Business Development Manager, job grade Higher Executive Officer (HEO), on a fixed term contract of one (1) year, with the possibility of extension subject to performance and operational requirements.

This role will champion the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and public sector healthcare proposition, whilst working with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Healthcare UK (HCUK) to facilitate a better understanding of the local healthcare landscape and identifying commercially viable high-value opportunities to build a sustainable pipeline for NHS engagement.

It will lead on developing new partnerships, delivering high-profile trade promotion activities to strengthen co-operation with the UK public sector and NHS across all elements of the sector – including clinical services, innovation opportunities, in international private patients and medical education and training.

The successful candidate will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the local healthcare sector and potential stakeholders. They will be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders within the local market. They will be a self-starter, able to manage their own time effectively, evaluating options, impacts, risks and solutions – knowing when and how to seek advice from others.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Promote and advocate for the UK’s NHS and public sector healthcare propositions in international markets
  • Collaborate with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Healthcare UK (HCUK) to develop a comprehensive understanding of the local healthcare environment
  • Identify and evaluate commercially viable, high-value opportunities to establish a sustainable pipeline for NHS engagement
  • Lead the creation of new partnerships within the healthcare sector, focusing on clinical services, digital health, and medical education and training
  • Communicate effectively with British audiences and articulate local market opportunities to major stakeholders
  • Independently manage workload, evaluate options, impacts, risks, and solutions, and seek guidance when appropriate

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager or head of section. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience or demonstrable understanding of the healthcare sector, ideally including public healthcare systems, providers, or healthcare markets.
  • Experience identifying and developing commercial opportunities, and partnerships.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess market trends and translate insights into actionable plans.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with senior business contacts and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proactive self-starting approach and the ability to deliver effectively with limited day-to-day supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Arabic Language Proficiency is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in Middle East markets is preferred.
  • Familiarity with UK public sector business (including the NHS) and UK culture.
  • A network of industry contacts within the local healthcare sector, or the ability to develop such a network – including within local government and healthcare authorities
  • Experience working internationally.

Eligibility:

  • The British Embassy provides visa sponsorship. The British Embassy will be able to employ you on the condition that we are able to obtain the required residence and work permit in Saudi.
  • If you already have the right to work and reside in Saudi (iqama), you will be required to transfer your visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Monthly salary details:

  • Base Salary – 15,968.00
  • Housing Allowance – SAR 3,922.00 (subject to eligibility) *
  • Travel Allowance – SAR 500.00 (subject to eligibility) *
  • Total – SAR 20,460.00

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependants of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.

No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is for a fixed term contract of one (1) year, with the possibility of extension subject to performance and operational requirements. The British Embassy Riyadh employs Country Based Staff in line with Saudi Labour Law.

This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week. Normal working hours for the Embassy are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs.

The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening/ weekend) during visits and events. Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy’s sponsorship.
