Job Description

The Senior Grants Compliance Consultant acts as specialized leader on complex grants procurement transactions, demonstrating a high degree of knowledge in the overall field with recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requiring analysis of unique issues and/or problems without precedent and/or structure.

The individual in this role negotiates terms and conditions of ancillary agreements to purchase orders. Solves accounts payable issues to ensure sponsors are billed timely and suppliers are paid. Proactively stays abreast of changes to sponsor and university policies and regulations and shares information with staff. Contributes to workflow, business process, and policy changes and updates by examining current practices and offering suggestions for process improvements. Demonstrates strong communication skills in disseminating complex regulations and compliance issues to the campus community.

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in business administration.

Required Qualifications: Demonstrated proficiency with electronic research tools and financial management systems; Must have at least 4 years  of extensive experience in research administration in a university setting. At least 4 years working knowledge of federal or private agency sponsors, contract/grant regulations, university policy.

Desired Qualifications: Certification (e.g. CRA, CFRA, CPSM). Maintain professional composure while working under pressure of external and internal deadlines; Capable of multi-tasking and problem-solving; strong analytical and critical thinking skills; Analyze complex situations and decide appropriate steps for resolution and follow-through; Guide less experienced staff in problem solving complex issues. Possess solid judgment & ability to exercise discretion to resolve ambiguity & promote effective solutions. Superior time management, follow-through, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience with public speaking and training. Understand the importance and value in providing exceptional customer service to all stakeholders. Promotes a culture that supports work/life balance, peer collaboration, autonomy, and supportive leadership. Effectively and independently manage a project and/or work group. Ability to see the bigger picture, examine practices, and implement improvements.

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), under the auspices of the Enterprise for Research, Innovation, and Knowledge, supports the development, implementation, and coordination of sponsored research at the University from proposal development to project closeout. OSP provides a full range of research administration services to support Ohio State faculty, staff, and graduate students through research administration, responsible stewardship of funds and sound management practices.
