Position Summary:
 
The School of Social Ecology consists of three highly ranked departments: Criminology, Law, and Society; Psychological Sciences; and Urban Planning and Public Policy. Faculty in the School share a commitment to scholarship that views human behavior in a larger social and institutional context, that moves beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries, and that seeks to disseminate knowledge beyond the confines of the university to a broader public. The School is an internationally recognized pioneer in developing interdisciplinary approaches to social problems that encourage flexibility and independent thinking among faculty and students and nourish collaboration across different fields and with people of many different experiences. The Sr. Assistant Dean for the School of Social Ecology provides administrative leadership and day to day management of the general operations of the School. The Sr. Assistant Dean works directly with the Dean in defining strategic priorities related to the school’s academic mission and its implementation. Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources including financial strategy and operations, space planning and facilities, computing, academic personnel processes and human resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs. Involved in developing, modifying and executing organizational policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may also have organization-wide effect.

Required:
 
10-20 years of relevant work experience, with at least 8 years of in a management role in higher education.
Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Excellent project management skills, including the capability of managing capital projects.
Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations, skills in conflict management techniques.
Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service.
Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals.
Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.
 
Preferred:
 
Advanced Degree
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll.
Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
Working knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the UC system and the University of California, Irvine.
