Job Description

Under administrative direction, provides coaching assistance to the Director of Sports Performance by facilitating the year-round sports performance program, including weight training and conditioning for assigned sports. Reports to the Director of Sports Performance. Adheres to NCAA and PAC-12 rules and regulations, as well as to the policies and procedures of the department, the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents.

Essential Duties

  • Assists in the design and implementation of year-round sports performance training programs for assigned sports based upon their competitive year and in conjunction with the Director of Sports Performance or liaison of assigned sport.
  • Assists with sports performance programs & coverage for any additional sports as assigned by the Director of Sports Performance.
  • Assists in the maintenance, upkeep and cleaning of the sports performance facilities as assigned by the Director of Sports Performance.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings with the Director of Sports Performance covering all aspects of sports performance coaching in order to promote professional development.
  • Adheres to and assists the Director of Sports Performance in the enforcement of all NCAA and PAC-12 conference rules and regulations, as well as all policies of the department, the university and the Arizona Board of Regents.
  • May oversee student workers and volunteers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field. OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. CSCS and/or CSCCa certification required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 6 months experience in sports performance or strength conditioning at the collegiate or professional level preferred, assigned to triathlon, and/or water polo.
  • At least 6 months experience with sports science data collection and analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and PAC-12 rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the science and technology of training and conditioning for peak athletic performance.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships.
  • Evidence of effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
  • Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Frequently required to stand and walk to other areas of athletics
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
  • Schedule is TBD and correlates with the assigned sports practice and game schedules
  • May be required to travel to away games with assigned teams
