Sponsored Programs Awards Analyst (working title)

Definition of Class

Provides administrative support at the institutional level through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Division of Sponsored Programs Administration for extramural projects including grant and contract award review, award intake and set-up, non-financial award actions, management and reporting

Examples of Work Performed

  • Responsible for all aspects of award receipt, review, execution and set-up.
  • Assists with the formalization of individual’s grants by negotiating terms and conditions and informing appropriate parties.
  • Assists in the administrative management of grants and contracts by reviewing and coordinating change orders, time extensions, budget reallocations, and monitoring reporting from inception to close-out.
  • Serves as liaison between faculty, staff, and sponsors to advise and/or assist with the review of documentation and the administrative compliance of the award as required by the sponsor, the University, legal, cost accounting standards and other guidelines.
  • Serves as an expert in finding and interpreting Sponsor guidelines, federal regulations, terms and conditions, SPA documentation, and maintains a deep knowledge of UM/State policies and procedures.
  • Support colleagues within SPA in completion of daily duties, or in the completion of special projects to improve SPA tools, processes, and general capabilities.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Make administrative management decisions for sponsored awards.
  • Monitoring of awards for change orders, time extensions, budget reallocations, and reporting.
  • Expertise working with multiple federal agencies.
  • Conduct research, analyze findings, and draw conclusions regrading award actions.
  • Solve complex problems and make sound decisions during stressful situations.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree – (Research Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field.)

AND

Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above-described duties.
Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
