Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
Under direct supervision, performs semi-technical duties in the Sample Receiving section of the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL). Duties include evaluating case submissions, entering data and test requests into the laboratory information system database (VADDS), pre-analytical processing of submitted specimens, and delivery of specimens to off campus. Additionally this position includes processing of medical waste for disposal, and shipping samples to other laboratories as a certified shipper. Familiarity with basic laboratory practices, equipment, and aseptic techniques is essential. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Required Qualifications:
Two years of college-level science in an applicable field OR high school graduation or GED Certification AND one year of clinical laboratory experience in a Clinical or Public Health Laboratory OR equivalent education/experience.

Ability to rotate working Saturdays and holidays as scheduled.
Must have, or able to obtain by date of hire, a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using VADDS or similar laboratory information management or electronic medical record system
Experience handling biological specimens.
Strong data entry skills, demonstrating speed and accuracy.
Experience in a medical, healthcare, and/or veterinary laboratory setting.
Experience providing effective customer service.
Experience/Familiarity with Hand-Off Communication Standards.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to respond constructively to stressful situations and problems.
