Salary Information Salary is dependent on experience with a minimum of $30,504.00.
Department Summary The UNT Libraries offer access to a collection of more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. The Libraries have a wide range of student and faculty-centered services, innovative and inclusive programs, and resources to facilitate teaching, learning, and research at UNT.
The Special Collections department collects and preserves rare and unique materials including rare books, oral histories, university archives, historical manuscripts, maps, microfilm, photographs, art and artifacts. Collections are visited annually by scholars from across the country as well as by visitors to our reading room exhibits.

Position Overview The Library Production Associate (Special Collections Access Services Assistant) will facilitate access to rare and unique collections materials held by The UNT Special Collections department. The Access Services Assistant will work primarily at Willis Library. Under the supervision of the Public Services Librarian, the Reading Room Assistant will assist with patron services both on-site and remotely, provide staffing for the Reading Room service point, hire and training student employees, and manage patron requests.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and one year of progressively responsible library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of library principles and policies, and knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows.
• Experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
• Ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • One or more years of experience working in archives or Special Collections
  • Experience performing archival research
  • Experience with digitization and metadata creation 
  • Familiarity with basic preservation and conservation standards 
  • Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists
  • Experience using Aeon, Archon or Archives Space

Job Duties

o Research services: Assist patrons with searching and identifying Special Collections materials, perform proxy research, prepare for reading room appointments, assist researchers on-site using Special Collections

o Tours/Instruction: Provide scheduled and unscheduled reading room tours, assist with instruction sessions, greet visitors to Special Collections
o Collection Management: Assist with management of requests using Aeon, page materials from on-site and off-site storage, troubleshoot problems with requests, assist with maintaining up to date information on website
o Preservation: Instruct patrons on proper handling of Special Collections materials, identify items in need of Preservation, alert Librarian if theft or damage is detected
o Other: Assist with other Special Collections projects as assigned, including preparation of large collections being digitized
o Hire, train and supervise student assistants.
