Space Product Assurance Technician

About the role
In this role, you will work closely with the Space Research Centre’s Product Assurance Engineer to ensure that projects meet the stringent standards expected in the space industry. Working proactively, you will monitor and advise on project processes, whilst ensuring best practice and standards are correctly understood, implemented and followed.
In addition, you will prepare reports to meetings, conferences and publication in journals as well as maintaining the traceability of SRC assets, specialist tools and high value items.
The Space Research Centre (SRC) within the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester conducts world leading research and instrumentation development to advance knowledge for public good. The School’s capability is demonstrated by its portfolio of both space and ground based instrumentation. For over 50 years, instruments built by the SRC have been successfully operating both in space and around the world. In order to continue with this success in the future it is of the utmost importance that we meet industry quality standards and ensure that space hardware will endure the harsh environments of Space for the duration of the mission, and that ground support equipment or ground based projects are follow appropriate quality standards.
The SRC works closely with leading space organisations such as NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) and has an internal engineering team tasked with taking scientific instruments and industrial projects from early research stage through to detailed design, assembly, integration and verification, and into post launch operational phase.
The role will primarily be located at Space Park Leicester although support of some activities on the main campus should be expected.
About you
With relevant experience and qualifications, you will be able to demonstrate experience of a practical nature. We would welcome candidates from a range of scientific or engineering disciplines such as medical, imaging, metrology, pharmaceutical, biological, mechanical, electronics or software. You will have experience of working to standards set by an external organisation, as well as an understanding behind PA & QA activities.
As a self-starter with an ability to work with minimal supervision, you will be a good communicator with the ability to work in a team environment whilst being able to motivate and persuade where possible.
